My name is Emilie and I have gotten so many compliments on the spelling. It's an old family name, dating back to the 1800s.
My good friends daughter is Emily I also have about 6 or 7 friends with the name Emily in my opinion its too overused but my daughter was super close to being a Emily!
It's a beautiful name, but the popularity of it just ruins it. I was born when it wasn't yet at position #1 and I've never been the only Emily. I was in a class with seven other Emilys, it was insane. It was quite hard to get teacher recommendations because they didn't remember which one I was O_o I suggest if you really love this name that you use it as a middle name!! My children are getting names like Nicoline, Andromeda and Sacha.
I love my name, obviously Emily. I love how it's in tons of songs poems and books. But because my name is so common and simple want I want my daughter to have a crazy name... Like Doutzyn (doubt-zen).
Too common :(
I found this on a list of top 20 "whitest" names for girls.
It is an absolutely gorgeous and classic name with historical usage, just way too popular! If this weren't so it would be on the top of my list for sure :)
It's my name, and although I like it, there's just too many of us out there. I'll either go by "Em" or just use my middle name.
My name is emily and i do like it but it is way to common. I have so many friends named emily and it is just annoying having such a popular name.
In my very honest opinion, Emily is just the most amazing name in the world! I think everyone should be called Emily. Everyone could have a different nickname e.g PollyAnna, Emnaynay, Emlazia, Ehmiliye, Gnemmaleigh (silent Gn)!
it use to be nice but now its way too common, if i ever meet an Emily I write them off as being plain and boring ( unfair but thats what happens you name your child the most common name out there)
I think Simon & Garfunkel put it very well. Girl's with this illustrious name also tend to be artistic. Go figure.
- Personal experiences with the name Emily: | Edit
My name is Emily. It may be a pleasant enough sounding name, but I abhor it. I had another Emily in my class all though school (not the same Emily either) and then again in college. The only enjoyment we ever got out of it was speaking out in class, answering the other Emily's question. Not worth it. Take pity on your daughter and call her something awesome.
I'm an Emily and I have always loved my name. I was born in the mid 80's and rarely encountered any other Emilys. Now I am a teacher and I know that it's only a matter of time before I start getting lots of Emilys in my classes. I do think the name is a little too popular now, but for me as I was growing up it was perfect. It's a great name for a kid but transitions well into adulthood. A lot of my friends call me "Em".
I'm an Emily and it tends to be so annoying because it is so common. I don't even respond to it anymore because whenever I answer it's another Emily and not me.
My middle name is Emily and it's a great middle name. Nobody else has it; I don't think I've ever met another one with the same middle name as me.
My name is Emily and as long as I can remember I have always loved it. I was shocked to find out that when I was born, in the early 1980s, it was in the top 25 because I only knew one other who was a grade ahead of me in school and she spelled it Emily. Now, its a little confusing because I can't go out without hearing my name called and I turn to see a mom talking to a 5 year old. But, I still love it and enjoy sharing it.
I hate the name Emily. :(
It is just so common! My name is Emma and I think Emma is a much better name. Well, actually, my name is EmmaLynn but whatever. Two of my cousins names are Emily and whenever I call the one I'm closest to I end up calling her Melanie
My name is Emily, I was born in the beginning of the massive surge of Emilys, and my parents didn't know it was so stupidly popular. I really do love the name, but I really do wish it weren't so ruddy common. It's both boring and extremely annoying. personally, i would recommend avoiding any names within the top 20...
