Estella is the name of a town in Northern Spain, in the Pyrenees Mountains. It was the capital of the medieval Kingdom of Navarre before Spain was united by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492. Today the town is proximal to other famous places like Pamplona and sites along the pilgrimage trail to Santiago de Compostela. The Navarre region sits at the crossroads of Spanish, Catalan and Basque cultures and languages. The grapes for Spain’s Rioja red wine are grown here.
Estella is Latin and medieval Spanish for ‘star’.
- Personal experiences with the name Estella: | Edit
This is my daughter's name! She was born in 2012, and since she was born, the feedback we've received has been overwhelmingly positive. It's a more sophisticated and unique choice than the too-popular Ella or any of the other popular "vintage" names (i.e., Sophia, Olivia, Charlotte, etc). Several women have even asked me if they could "steal" it for their future daughters. I fell in love with this name after reading "Great Expectations" as a girl, and it was always my #1 baby's name (for a girl). Luckily for me, my husband loved it, too!
