My Israeli friends have strongly discouraged us from naming our (probably blonde, Jewish) daughter Golda. They say it is just too old-fashioned.
Old fashioned is just what makes Golda a good name. I love the old names and having a grandmother who was a huge influence on my life makes the name even sweeter. To me the name means security, love, teaching/learning and most of all home. My daughter has Golda at the top of her list for a daughter after her great grandmother. Which is right because the continuation of a name within a family honors the past in the present. And, as a sidelight, you have to look at the fact that there will most likely not be any other Golda's in school with her. :)
