I was named for a friend of my mother, Honor Tranum, who recently died at the age of 99 yrs. No pun intended (and I really don't like it when other people "pun" my name) I feel very honored to have been named for such a wonderful woman. I love my name, and I love having a name that is not shared by the majority of the population. But due to the fact that it isn't run of the mill, I am often the target of "funny" puns or jokes; more surprising, however, are those who mis-read HONOR for HOMER!! I kid you not!! And among certain friends, even family members, I am always called Homer. And because I have spent my entire life explaining, pronouncing and spelling my name, I am particularly sensitive to others with unusual monickers; I never, ever make comments about other people's names, other than a short complimentary remark. I know what its like to be on the receiving end of other peoples "humor." So, parents, don't get too carried away when naming your sweet little baby; he/she is the one who is going to have to bear it, not you!!

I've seen Honor in English birth announcements, spelt the American way, which I find a bit strange.
