Comments and insights on the name Jacey: | Edit

In the deep South, the name Jacey, while not common, has a history. It is possible that the name originated from the Creole "Jacinta," meaning hyacinth. This could be why the name took hold in states such a Mississippi, where I first heard it. My first encounter with the name came in the personage of a woman in her 60s, in the year 1990. She was the epitome of the deep south (white) woman, with immaculate hair and nails and a strand of pearls ever-present around her neck. She looked as though she should be sitting under a tree drinking mint julep. Instead, she was working for me at a Department store. I remember discovering that looks could be deceiving and being continually surprised by her spunk and the way she rolled up her sleeves and "dug in," unloading freight without batting an eye, and keeping up with me (I was in my 20s) every step of the way. I like people who surprise me. I ended up naming my second daughter Jacey. The elder Jacey had told me her name had been passed through her family for generations. Reference to the name having a tradition in the deep south is made in the movie The Color of Love; Jacey's Story, by actress Gena Rowlands, who tells her granddaughter, Jacey, that it is a traditional southern name. That movie, made for TV, also starred Louis Gossett Jr., and is an inspirational story about family, friendship and overcoming societal racism. There is another reference to the name's origin that can be found, when searching: that Jacey is a derivative of the Latin word Gaius, meaning happy. I like this idea, as well, because my daughter is so full of joy that I have often called her "Joyful Jacey." Getting people to pronounce my daughter's name, correctly, (in the traditional southern sense - we live in the north,) has been a challenge. She is nine years old, and when she introduces herself, I hear her tell people: "It's Jacey, like Lacey or Tracy, only with a 'J'"
My name, Jacey, was created by my parents in 1983. My grandmother wanted me to be named Jesse, but since I was a girl, my parents combined their initials J and C to create the name Jacey. They thought it would be a cute and highly unusual name, which is was and still is. I did not encounter anyone with the same name until nearly the turn of the century, when I searched the internet for my name and a response finally returned a single result with the same name. There was also a girl named Jacey in a made for tv movie in the late 1990s.

We named our daughter Jacey because my Grandmother spelled my name Karen with a C and my husbands name was John so we combined the initials of C from Caren and the J from John and created the name Jacey. I later heard that the name was in a Danielle Steele book. Since naming our daughter Jacey we've heard of several other variations of her name and spellings ...Jacie .. Jacee ... Jayce and Jacy.

My name is Jacey. My parents got my name from a movie called The Last Picture Show, one of the main characters is named jacey in it. The way my name is pronounced is Jacee you elongate the a instead of the c which people have a problem with. The only way I can explain how to pronounce my name to people is by saying that it rhymes w/lacey,stacey, or casey. I've come to like my name now that I'm older and am glad that it's different b/c there are names that are overused. My mom and sister have talked about me in conversations and have gotten compliments of liking my name. So I can thank my parents for that :)

Personal experiences with the name Jacey: | Edit

Everyone that I know that has heard the name Jacey loves it. I've found it amusing that some choose to pronounce it as "Jackie" with the C having a K sound. I think the name flows and is pretty.

I get a lot of comments on my daughters name: Jacey. I get a lot of ppl who want to call her J.C though (even family) Other then that it works well for my 4 year old. -TN

I have also gotten a lot of compliments on my name. Usually it's good once the people know it's not pronounced like initials. My family and a few friends are the only ones who pronounce it correctly.

I found a few different ones: The American means - a combination of the initials J + C Also a short form of Jacinda, and The Greek means - a familiar form of Jacinda

I read in a baby book that it was some type of flower.

I read that it is a unisex name and means 'moon' in Native American.

There is no actual language called "Native American", Native American is a term that encompasses many different tribes and languages. That's like saying Luna means moon in European.
