I'm an older Janna (1965) and really hated my name as a child, due to its unusualness and my nick name Janna Banana. I love it now, although, since people don't listen I get called every 'J' name ever to exist. My Mom is the only person who has ever called me Jan, and I do have a number of friends who call me Jannie. I m proud to be a Janna.

My name is Janna. I was born in 1996. When my mom was trying to figure out names for me when she was pregnant, she was talking to a client named 'Janet'. She misheard the name and though Janna was a nice name. She thought that she made it up. When I was younger in elementary school I had the nicnames of 'Janna Banana' 'J-J' 'Wanna' and my most current and favorite one, 'J'. My friends began calling me 'J' when they got sick of 'J-J'. Also, my riding coach somehow could not pronounce 'Janna' so I was called my the name 'J' by everyone I knew including my mother. A lot of people had trouble pronouncing 'Janna' thinking it was 'Jenna' or 'Janet'. Also, people often spell it wrong (Jana). Janna Means 'God is Gracious' so I am happy with my name

My name is Janna and I wasn't slagged off as much as alot of people in school for my name. All they could think of is Janna banana, but that never bothered me and I could always do better on their names. In high school I would never have been slagged if it wasn't for that stupid advert for punjana tea bags. That really didn't bother me either, I found it quite funny. In general, I love my name. It's so different and I always have people coming up to me saying, "Wow, that's a nice name, I've never heard that before." The only thing that bothers me is that it's really hard to think of a nickname for me. The best anyone has ever came up with is Jazz.

My name is Janna (b. 1988), and I love my name. I've only met a few other Jannas, so it's a different name without being an odd one. As a nickname, I have been called Jan or Jannie, but that's only by a few people. The only problems I've had with the name are that many people spell it wrong (Jana) or mishear me when I say it and think I've said Jenna/Janet/Janice/Geena. However, I view those as minor problems and love my name regardless. I often recieve compliments on how pretty it is.

Another Janna here (b. 1980). My Mom found it while reading a book during her pregnancy with me. The main character's name was JoAnna, and everyone called her Jana. For whatever reason, my parents decided to add an extra n to lengthen the name. I'm often told how pretty my name is, but like previous posters, it is often misheard or misspelled. In addition to what's already been mentioned,I get Jayna a lot too. And I don't think you can be named Janna and not be called Janna Banana. I loved that as a kid! I didn't really care for my name as a child (wanted something more common with nn options like Kimberly/Kim) but now I love my name and wouldn't change it for the world. I think if I were to consider Janna for a child today, I'd spell it Jana. Somehow that seems more in-tune with what's in style today.
