Comments and insights on the name Kairi: | Edit

I just gave birth to my second daughter and we named her Kairi. At this point in her young life the most common mispronunciation she gets is kaiwee from her 19-month-old sister. I have had a lot of friends and relatives ask how it's pronounced since they've only seen the spelling on Facebook and most of them get it right except for the few Carrie's she gets.

Our daughter is named Kairi. She loves to hear someone else has her name. I hope when she gets older she will find it is a good thing that her name is not so common. She also hates it when people say her name wrong. She is very quick to correct people. KAIRI is a very pretty name my name is Kari and people always mispronounce my name they say Keri , my name sonds like CAR. I love it so much thnks to my Dad naming me Kari.

My husband asked me about the name Kairi when we found out we were pregnant with our daughter. I fell in love with it immediately, even though he wanted to name her that after the Princess in the Kingdom Hearts game. We found out the meaning of the name Kairi, that it means song or melody in French. We had wanted her middle name to be Rain, and we felt that the meaning of melody along with Rain was very fitting! Kairi ended up being born during a severe thunderstorm complete with torrential rains and hail. It was very soothing to watch during her labor, so the meaning of melody, and her middle name, Rain took on a new meaning! Kairi is now almost 4, and her name fits her very well. She loves her name, and everyone that hears it says it is a very beautiful and unique name. A lot of people have a hard time spelling it, but all of her teachers and people close to her caught onto it very quick!

I love the name Kairi! I found out about it from the Kingdom Hearts game and loved it! Even though Kairi is a princess, I think that it's a lot better than naming someone Snow White. I have never met anyone with the name Kairi before. My name is Havilah, and lots of people mess that up too, so I know how people feel when someone mispronounces their name!

My daugter is 6 and I named her Kairi (her middle name is Vianne) after the Kindon Hearts chatacter...i loved the name immediately and so do alot of people that hear it. I knew when I named her that i'd be correcting her name for along time and i still do...Kaylee,Carrie are some of the most popular...I don't care...she loves her name, loves hearing...and gets a tickle out correcting people frequently...her baby brother kalls her Kaiwee...and we call her Kai for short... MY daughter was born in 2007 is also named Kairi and was named after the video game and I also have to correct people when they say her name so we just call her ki for short but we do get lots of coments on her name about how unique it is but I love her name I had a hard time finding a middle name to go with it but eventally found one so her name is Kairi Kimora but im glad to hear that other people have named there kids Kairi it is a beautiful name.

Our daughter is just a little over 2 months old. My husband loved the kingdom hearts game as a kid. I didn't really like the idea of naming our baby after a character on a video game, but it was a really pretty name and it made him happy. So we named her Kairi Elizabeth. The Elizabeth part was after my mother. I have not heard one person get her name right. Everyone asks me pernunciations and spellings all the time. It gets quite annoying. When I first saw the spelling I got it right off the bat. It's not hard. People most of the time say Carrie. Her doctor's office says carry (like a car). I will never understand how people can get it so messed up. I thought we were the only ones that had a child named Kairi because I've never heard of anyone else having it. I'm glad to know we're not.

My own name is Kairi and I personally love it. I love hearing people pronounce it wrong like, Carrie, Ky-ari, or rarely they say it right. It's not very hard when you look at it closely, "Kai" makes the "KY" sound and "Ri" makes the "Ree" sound.

Personal experiences with the name Kairi: | Edit

My niece is named Kairi. This name is prone to mispronounciation by school teachers and strangers as they tend to pronounce it like Carrie instead of Kie-ree.
- I have a daughter named Kairi and people do mispronounce it a lot and I always have people asking me if her name is Kylee. I have to tell them like Kylee but with an 'R.'
My Granddaughter's name is Kairi Skye and the name is almost as beautiful as she is, she is 1 1/2 years old. The name is a new name and sounds refreshing and everyone should get used to it because soon it will be the number one name for girls, just wait and see. Everyone sure does have a heck of a time pronouncing it, but that is the fun of it and because the name is unique; she will grow up knowing she is unique too.

My name is Kairi and I am Estonian. It is a very popular name from Estonia actually, not Japan. It has been a popular since the 50's, maybe even earlier. I do have trouble with the name in English. Most common misprounanciation would be Carrie and with spelling I tend to get "Kyre"...awful. I am 25 and wouldn't change my name if I had the choice, love my name! My middle name is Helena and I've gotten a lot of great comments about my full name.

Famous real-life people named Kairi: | Edit

I too got this name from Kingdom Hearts. Growing up playing this game I fell in love with the name and told my siblings then that my daughter's name would be Kairi. I do have a lot of problems with people pronouncing her name. They call her Carrie a lot . I'm like the name does not look nothing like that. My parents being Latinos have a hard time with it so they just use her middle name. I ask my daughter who is almost four if she likes that name her response is "I love it!" Makes me proud!it's such a beautiful name. And the meaning of her full name is ocean of beauty, which I think fits her perfectly since she is biracial and looks completely exotic.

Kairi in song, story & screen: | Edit

This name became very popular with the release of the Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2 video games. In the game, one of the seven Princesses is named Kairi. Well-known actress, Hayden Panettierre, voices this character.

There is also a famous dive location in the Maldives, called "Kairi Beyru Thila."

There are many Kingdom hearts games out now and Kairi continued to be a important character from it. I named my daughter from that character because she was born the day Kingdom hearts two was released and it was my favorite game at the time.
