My name is Kali. I am now 27 and I absolutely LOVE my name. I feel the meaning behind it is empowering, as the goddess is a VERY strong female character. When I was a baby though, my mom took me to a pediatrician who was Hindu and he refused to treat me because of the name, a story I love to tell lol. It has been pronounced differently though, for me my whole life it has been pronounced Cali, like the short form of Cali-fornia.
Mine is very similar to the above! I'm a Kali (pronounced the same way) born in '78, and I've always loved my name as well. I've only met a few others, but none who spell it the same way. I've also identified with the goddess Kali, and it's a great point of reference for the history of the name.
In 2014, I named my daughter Kali, she was born at 23 weeks, 1lb 3oz, many many complications, and eight surgeries. But, Kali is strong and survived. She is now almost two. The name came to me after waking up from the emergency c section and I had 5 other names picked out but that one was the one I said when asked. She had many Hindu doctors, and wonderful people who did help save her. She even had the honor of Mother Meera holding her. Since Kali was born my life has been full of distruction, and it has been ever changing but with the most positive outcomes.
