I'm a Katharine, but I've been premanently Katy since the first day of kindergarten to everyone but one great aunt who thinks Katharine is too pretty to waste. I like the double-A's. I haven't met another Katharine. When people comment on the spelling, I just tell them it's like Katharine Hepburn, but really I was named after all of the Maureen O'Hara characters.
- Personal experiences with the name Katharine: | Edit
Shakespeare's used the unique spelling of the name and I claim this is the reason I chose to spell it that way, and it is, in part, but mostly it was because her father strongly suggested Katherine and I liked both the name and, in particular, its flexibility, but disliked that it is also the name of the woman who had been the other half his longest, most serious and most recent girlfriend (who had run off with his best friend) shortly before we met. I had to put my stamp on it somehow!
Because of the way I printed my daughter's name on her elementary school registration forms, sort of running the "r" into the adjacent "i," which resulted in her name being entered into the system as "Kathanne" Once in the computer it might as well be chiseled in stone, so it took until a new system was installed and new forms issued her first year of high school to finally correct her file name to Katharine.
