I have a girl in my class whose name is Kira but she pronounces it "Kye-rah", which makes it less confusing because there is also a Kirra (Kir-rah) in the the class as well :)
My name is, in fact, Kira. I've always liked it because it's more unique than Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, and other names that my friends had growing up. Oh, and I'd like to add something to the definition:
the Gaelic definition of 'Keira' is "dark" or "little dark on," but the etymology of 'Kira'is actually of sanskrit roots and means "beam of sun or light" or the Greek Kyra which means "bright lady" (coming from the Persian word for lord and the Egyptian word for the sun). The Slavonic name Kira means "strong woman" and the Russian equivalent Кира means "beloved."
I didn't mean to lecture or sound like a know-it-all, but someone as sinister as myself doesn't needed the added effect of having a name that commonly means "dark one." :)
