Comments and insights on the name Krista: | Edit

I am very happily named Krista. My mother had other names picked out, but fortunately for me my parents saw the movie "Soldier Blue". Candace Bergen's character was named Krista. My father liked it and I became Krista. No one ever remembers my name correctly. If they do remember it I get many variations such as, Kris, Kristy, Krystal, Kristina etc... instead of Krista. However, I have never had to add my last initial to distinguish me from another Krista and people can pronounce my name when they read it. I have been complimented on my name many times. I am happy with the name Krista, as it sure beats out Priscilla or Druscilla.

Personal experiences with the name Krista: | Edit

I was named at the very last minute because my parents were both teachers and could not decide on a name that didn't remind them of previous annoying students. They agreed on Krista and it correlates a little to my German heritage by using a "K" although spelling is a problem for strangers. I almost always have to correct that it is not "Ch" and as a kid I said I am not a boy, referring to Chris my male cousin. When people ask my name without seeing it written, I can become Kristen, Kristy, you name it but only Krista when I say it a second time. I think because it is not so common. As a married woman, it has become more important because the ex-wife is Kristen, so getting my name wrong becomes more funny. I do like my name and don't mind letting some people say it wrong (when I won't see them again or too elderly to figure it out) and spelling it out for the rest of my life on telephones and forms being filled out by others.

-- I think all Krista's go through something similar. No one remembers, and we become everything from Krisy to Christina. I am not in love with my name but I recognize it could be worse. I am also glad my mother with went the "i" instead of the now trendy "y".
