This was the name I had picked out for a daughter, but I ended up having two sons (and chose different names for them...I prefer the name Lane for a girl).
My name is Lane and I like it because it is different. I have only heard of one other woman by this name and she spelled it Layne. The biggest confusion I have had is that I am often called (E)laine. My name was given to me through inspiration so to me that makes it even more special. The narrow path is what God has called me to.
My name is Lane and I am a woman and I love my name!!! It is distinctive just like me! Its a conversation starter. Yes, sometimes when meeting new people, I am called "Elaine" and "Lainey" however, I wouldn't change it at all. Its different and I think of myself as creative, bold and unique. Many people think its a family name because it is so different. As a child when I lived in the South at a yearly summer camp I attended, I met one boy named Lane and a camp nurse, a woman named Lane. I was so very excited as a 13 year old to met other Lane(s). For the first time I had to really pay attention to context when my name was yelled across the Frisbee field. I wasnt the ONLY Lane camper! ;) As my memory serves me correctly the woman spelled it differently and the boy spelled it the same as mine. As my mother tells the story, I was named Lane after my mother heard the name of a boy at my older brother's kindergarten in North Carolina and thought it would be lovely for a girl's name. My mother especially wanted both her children to have unique names as her's is Ann.
I am a man & my middle name is Lane. My wife turned me on to the idea of naming our daughter Lane. I had never imagined it as a girl's name. I never hated my middle name but it never shined to me either. Like many, it was merely an extension of my first name for when I was in trouble. CORY LANE!!!
After our daughter (our only child for now) was born, the name quickly grew on me & now it seems more fitting as a girl's name than it ever did as a boy's. I am very proud that she is named after me. My Laniebug's middle name is Amelia. Her name around the house is unanimously "Lanie". Her mom's favorite nickname for her is "Lanie roo". I only recently thought of "Laniebug" (sounds like "ladybug") but I called dibs on it so it's Daddy's special name only. So far, at 6 months old, she has vibrant blue eyes that I think are going to stick & what little hair she has is pretty reddish but it seems to be getting darker as it grows longer. We will see.
I'm glad that it seems few females are named Lane so it is unique. I'm also pleased that the women named Lane on this blog are fond of their name. It is unique, simple & sweet.
