I have known of several Lavadas besides myself and in my experience it is alwasy pronounce Luh-Vay-duh; not Luh-Vah-duh. People tend to read it wrong. They also tend to assume it is Spanish, however for me at least, it has come from the Scottish side of my family.
- Personal experiences with the name Lavada: | Edit
Lavada is actually my middle name, but I have gone by Vada ever since I started college. I love my name. It was my grandmother's and her great great grandmother's name before her, so I feel connected to them. Also, its a unique name and tends to grab people's attention. I get a lot of questions and positive responses to it.
However, it is mispronounced alot when people read it, and miss spelled when people write it.

- Meanings and history of the name Lavada: | Edit
I don't have concrete evidence for the exact origin, but I was told by a great aunt who is very interested in genealogy that Lavada is Scottish and means something to the effect of "a high place", but I am still searching for documentation of that. I do know that the name has been in my family for several hundred years.
- Famous real-life people named Lavada: | Edit
My first name after my surname is LaVada. My father named me after a lady he met in a corner story in San Francisco during 1955. My mother was seven months, and they traveled across the country to Maryland. He had just gotten out of the Navy. During 1968, he called and told me about my name. He swore me to secret, not to tell my mother that my name came from the Beautiful women he befriended at the corner store. During 1995 in Fairbanks Alaska, I had the privelege to meet the Lavada that my father had met forty years earlier. She named her daughter middle name Lavada, Then here daughter named her daugther Lavada with the nick name Sam. We met for lunch once a month, for awhile. I miss meeting with Sam and her mother. Her Grand mother went back to San Francisco. I still think of them. I was told my name came from Hebrew meaning Unique, Spanish meaning-the wash, French meaning beautiful, never found any papers on this name. I have been on the internet and intranet seeking my the meaning of my name. I have found more people with my name since 2007, after my daughter was killed in Iraq. I just hope is not ID theft going on. THe name Lavada is very unique in spell and People always mis prounce it, however I answer to how they think it should be said. I just don't want to be call late for dinner. SMILE!!!

In the movie My Girl with Macaulay Culkin and Anna Chlumski, the lead character is named Vada, and I can only assume that it is short for Lavada.
