I tend to find that people with this name love pickles!!
I really love the French pronunciation of this name over all! That pronunciation versus Madelyn would win anytime! Although, those pronunciations would win over the name Madison. I'm not a big fan of the nickname Maddie.
- Personal experiences with the name Madeleine: | Edit
I love having the name Madeleine, and am very glad my parents chose this classic spelling. I don't know any other Madeleines in my age range (I'm 31), but have noticed it has caught on a bit. I was honored when my neighbor actually liked my name so much, that she named her little girl after me...even if she spelled it Madelyn. We are now expecting a baby girl, so I am in search of a name that is equally classy, beautiful and unexpected.
My younger sister is named Madeleine and absolutely everyone spells it wrong! (Madelyn, Madeline) We call her Maude which I like. Her teachers assume that her nickname is maddy and immediately call her that. My parents don't like maddy though, as she isn't always mad. Her middle name is Rebecca and I love it. Must of her friends just call her Madeleine. All in all I really like this name.
Having named a child Madeleine prior to the movie "Splash" coming out and ironically naming the mermaid "Madison", it is really irritating to have people assume that my Maddy is a Madison.
My name is Madeleine, and I love it. I much prefer this classic spelling to the more recently coined Madeline, which seems off-balance somehow, or for that matter the other variations (Madelyn, etc). Be aware that absolutely *everyone* misspells it as Madeline and many people mispronounce the last syllable as "line" instead of "lin," which can get extremely annoying, especially to children. Although when I was young I longed for the more common spelling, but now I feel that the small inconveniences are worth the beauty of the name!
My name is Madeleine and I really like my name. I really love the extra e, it makes the name so much more complete and balanced. Sure, people never do spell it right, and they usually assume that Maddie is for Madison, but I don't really care. It makes my name even more special in a way. I truly love my name and don't recall meeting another person whose name was spelled the same way. It is classic and beautiful, while also being fresh and fun.
I am also a Madeleine and when I was younger I hated it. Many times I have tried new ways of spelling 'Maddy'. Although, now that I'm in high school, I am beginning to realise how nice my name actually is. It is annoying when people assume that it is spelt as other variations (this wasn't helped by a certain red-headed French cartoon and book character), but I do prefer my spelling to the other Madeline & Madelyn in my grade.
My name is Madeleine and I really love it. I'm often mistaken for "Madeline" or even "Madison" and it gets pretty annoying. I think the sound of the "Lin" is so much nicer than "line". Most of my classmates have generic names so it's harder for them to get used to it. I love to say that it is French. It's just very beautiful and elegant. A lot of people find it easier to call me Maddie and sometimes Mads for short which is kind of cute, even some "mad-dogs". I've rarely ran into other Madeleines which is kind of nice. I highly recommend this name.
