I hate the name Makayla its a version of Michalea kit looks much better Makayla looks like a typo.
^You are a complete and total idiot. Your name is probably Michaela, be honest. Makayla is a gorgeous spelling and I don't know what sort of spelling Michaela is.
ALL this is to much. My daughter's name is Makayla and I think it's perfect. Stop judging and just love the name you chose for your child. You chose it for a reason not to please everyone else. I love my Aakayla and her name fits her perfect.
To whom ever wrote this, that is your opinion and your opinion matters to you but I assure you not everyone feels this way. I feel this looks a lot less manly and I "think" it looks sophisticated.. And by the way I have a 10 year old with this name and spelling it is the female version of Michael (as "he who is like god") the spelling above could be mispronounced as Michael-a. So i prefer this spelling
I agree with the first poster. This spelling looks like mom and dad were hookt on fonics. Not professional at all! Michaela is more sophisticated, but because of the popularity of Makayla/Mikayla, Michaelas will probably be mispronounced as Michael-a.
^You sound like you were hooked on 'fonics'.
As you can see from the statistics, this spelling has become way more popular than the original Michaela. Those spelled 'Michaela' are going to be the odd ones out and this is going to become the normal, hopefully shifting perception of the name. Put your prejudice away.
- Personal experiences with the name Makayla: | Edit
Your name has nothing to do with the way your raised. You become your own person. Those remarks were uncalled for! My name is Makayla, and I hated it when I was younger. I wanted something more common like "Kimberly" or Jessica." But as I grew up, I began loving it. I enjoy having a unique name, and I receive many compliments on it. Many people think it's "pretty" and "interesting." And as for the spelling, I wouldn't want it spelt any other way. I have a best friend named Makaila, and she agrees on liking my spelling better. People still pronounce it wrong, but I like it way better than "Michaela," which is how my mother was planning on spelling it. Anyways, if you're thinking of using this name, from personal experience, it's an awesome name that I'm proud of. :)
I know two Makaylas. One is a 20 something high school dropout addicted to painkillers, and the other is the daughter of a mother who gave birth to her when she was 16. I also know two Mikaylas who were also born to teenage mothers. So, it definitely has a trashy connotation for me. Check out the NameMapper. Makayla is most popular in low-income states.
Comment: this is your personal prejudice, why would you make people feel bad for choosing this name?
Comment: wooow. Love the judgemental additude. For your information, my name is makayla and I was born to a 32 year old woman with a great job and im in college to become a nurse. Every person is different. You can believe what you want, but just because we have the name makayla, doesnt mean we're all bad people from bad backgrounds. Maybe you should choose who you hang around with better.
I know three they all spelled it differently one i went to elementary school with spelled her name Makayla.Another i went to middle school with spelled it Mychaela, which was always said wrong or wrote wrong. My daughter Gisselle, shes four and her middle name is also Makayla but spelled MaKaylah.I always love Makayla spelled MaKaylah or Mychaela its different.

My mom named me Makayla in 1966, long before it was popular, or before anyone had heard of it. She heard the name on a television show. There was a Hawaiian girl on the Art Linkletter show named Makayla, and she spelled her name out, so that is how my mom knew how to spell it. Many people think the name Makayla is a version of Michaela, the feminine version of Michael. However, I believe that my name is Hawaiian and means Myrtle tree, and is NOT the feminine version of Michael with a different spelling. I have actually seen it defined as a Hawaiian name meaning Myrtle tree, in a name book, but only once. Most other times it's listed as a variation of Michaela. I wish that people truly knew the origin of the name and did not associate it as being the feminine version of Michael.
