I just named my daughter Mallorie. I loved the name, but was not fond of the meaning "unlucky one." I discovered in German, the name means "warrior," which I could live with.

As "Mal" is the root in all Latin languages for "bad," a lot of unfortunate nicknames can crop up--malaria, malfunction, malevolent, etc. I've been called them all. While living in France, my nickname "Mal" was a continual joke because if you say "c'est mal" it means "it's bad." But it builds character.

My sister's name is Mallory, and I've only met two or three people with the same name. People always think we mean to say Valerie when we say her name.

My name is Mallory and my middle name is Elise; together they sound better: Mallory Elise. I was named after the characters in "Family Ties."

I knew a Mallory who only went by the nickname Curly! I always thought it was sad, since Mallory is such a pretty name.
