My name is Marianna. I was named after my Italian Grandmother. The Italian pronunciation is very different from the English possibilities. I grew up with all of my family members using the Italian (or Spanish) pronunciation. Sounds like Muddy-ah-na. I hated being called "Mary Anna" or "Maryanne." Since many Americans cannot pronounce my name with an Italian pronunciation, I now introduce myself as "Mah-ree-ah-na." Its the only English pronunciation I like. I have been called everything in the book: Mary, Marina, Maria, Marion, Mary-Annie, Marietta, and Matilda. It is mispelled 90% of the time. It can be a frustrating name to have at times because of the frequent mispronounciations and misspellings, but I love my unique (in the U.S at least) name. I like that you can choose the pronunciation that suits you most. There isn't just one way, and each pronunciation has its own personality.

This is my name, named after my mother. It is pronounced Mary-Ann-ah. Growing up, I went by Mari (pronounced Mary) and hated that it was always misspelled, mispronounced, or too similar to Mary which was all too common. I also hated all of the sing songs that were sang to me. I later started going strictly by Marianna which I much prefer as it is unique and I think is quite pretty and receive many compliments on. Some people pronounce it Mary-on-ah which is also pretty so I don't mind or bother to correct them. Most people don't pay enough attention and I am often called MaryAnn and Maria (I have a huge peeve about spelling names incorrectly so this always irks me).
