I don't know about other women named Marianne, but my parents named me Marianne Elizabeth for its Biblical references. Marianne is the combination of Mary (mother of Jesus) and Anne (mother of Mary), and Elizabeth is the name of Mary's cousin (and mother of John the Baptist).
Beautiful and elegant name. My friends are triplet sisters named Sylvie, Marianne and Audrey Kathleen. Beautiful names. And lovely people.
- Personal experiences with the name Marianne: | Edit
I was born in 1980 and I was the only person in school with this name. I loved that when the teacher said Marianne I knew they were talking to me. I really like that it is not a common name.
When I was a kid I knew several girls named Mary Ann. An uncle was visiting us one day and he said something about his neighbor girl whose name was Marianne. He said "it's spelled M-A-R-I-A-N-N-E". He and Auntie thought that was really weird. I thought it was pretty and made Mary Ann, which I thought was very plain, much prettier.
