Comments and insights on the name Medora: | Edit

Medora was the name of a character in George Gordon, Lord Byron's poem "The Corsair." His half-sister, Augusta Leigh, named the daughter who might have been from her affair with Byron after the character. Medora was also the name of Medora von Hoffmann, the Marquise de Mores, the daughter of a wealthy New York banker and wife of a French nobleman. A tourist town in North Dakota is named Medora after her because her husband tried to establish a meat packing plant there in the late 1890s and built a large home there that is now open to the public as a museum. It's a beautiful town and there's a lot of romance attached to the story for North Dakotans.
