Fantastic name, but be prepared to say "Meghan with an H" for the rest of your life!
My friend spells her name this way and pronounces it "MAY-gen"
- Personal experiences with the name Meghan: | Edit
I'm yet another Meghan whose mom was inspired by The Thornbirds (November 1989). I think it's sort of bizarre though, since that book spells it Meghann. Weird that our moms were inspired by this book and yet were all inspired to spell it yet another incorrect way. :P
My mother named me 'Meghan' after the main character in the book 'The Thornbirds', one of her favorite novels at the time of my birth (December 1984). She had no idea it was a popular name at the time. I love my name and I think the spelling is rather beautiful, though I do have to spell it out everytime I give it to people. I don't believe 'Meghan' spelled any other way is MY name. But this experience has good qualities: I'm a stickler for spelling other people's names right. I feel guilty if I spell other people's names wrong, knowing how I hate having my name misspelled.
I am the mother of a 'Meghan'. I watched 'The Thorn Birds' miniseries in 1985 and loved the name. Eight years later during my pregnancy, my husband bought me 'The Thornbirds' VHS. Meghan was the only name we could agree upon. My daughter claims the spelling 'MEGHAN' is the RIGHT way to spell it.
These passages made me laugh a little, because my mother too named me after the Meggie in "The Thornbirds." Rachel Ward was stunning. I wonder how many "Thornbirds" inspired Meghans there are out there!!!!
******THIS IS NUTS!!!!!!!! I was just looking up the meanings of mine, my moms ect. & this is my middle name 1st namd Sarah "meaning princess" & in 1980 my mother was reading the book "the Thorn Birds" & fell in love with the name (spelling, the way you pronouce it, everything)... To read ya'll stories, all I have to say is there must be something about that book Preg. moms!!!! LOL But I love the name cause it is just as unique as me!!!!
So, my mom also named me after Meggie in Thornsbirds! I have not yet read the novel, but I'm thinking I should considering it's impact on the world of Meghans. I love my name and also feel that other spellings don't apply to me in any way. Meghan is only perfect with an 'h.' ;)
My mother named me Meghan with an "h" because she believed that it was the true Irish spelling of the name Megan. My entire life she explained to people that I was not named for the "Thornbirds" which annoyed her to all ends! To this day I constantly have to tell people, it's Megan with an "H". But overall I love the name and also love the fact not many people in my everyday life has same name. The only thing with the name is that I hate all nicknames that go with it, so I go by Meghan only!
