The longest history of the name is from Egypt as far as I know. It is from the verb love. It meant beloved a very long time ago. It was used in hieroglyphs in association with Isis goddess of fertility for example, but it was used in association with Kings also. As time has gone by, it has come to have different meanings.

This is actually my name and from what I understand it means: Joyous. The name is pronounced more like Mire, the E sounds like an I sound and the I sounds like E sound. I never liked the name, but it is unique and very uncommon. Most people pronounce it like Mary. I have seen 2 others with the name.
