Mestra in song, story & screen: | Edit: Mestra was Erysichthon's daughter in Greek mythology. An intelligent sort, she prayed to Poseidon after being sold into slavery by her father (long story involving trees and famine and stupidity), and was transformed into a variety of creatures including a fisherman and a cow in order to escape this fate. In some versions of the myth, Mestra and Poseidon are lovers. In others, she marries Autolycus, who was a famous mythological thief.
