Comments and insights on the name Mia: | Edit

Mia is also Italian for "mine" or "my". My name is Mia, and I know someone named "Cara Mia" or "my love".

Ami, Ima, Mai and Mia are anagrams of each other; they contain the same letters.

Pronounce mee-ah

Pretty name!

The name Mia is #5 on the list of top 100 cool baby girl names in the baby name book "Cool Names" by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz.

In my experience people sometimes mispronounce Mia as MY-ah.
I named my daughter Mia-larna because I feel that Mia is too commonly used, every 2nd child is named Mia!

I think pronouncing Mia as MY-ah is a lot nicer, I prefer it, although pronouncing it MEE-a is lovely too.

If you pronounce it My-ah you should spell it Maya or Miyah.

My niece is 3 and her name is Mia Natalya. Her nursery school teacher pronounced her name My-ah, and she corrected them and said "My name is Mia, not Mya!" I think its an adorable name!

Personal experiences with the name Mia: | Edit

People have always complimented and taken towards my name. I love it, it was easy to learn to write as child, and suitable for any age.

I am Mea and it came from my initials, Mary Ellen A. I love the variation, no one else ever had it spelled this way

I was born in the early 80s, when the name was not as popular. For some reason people thought my mother made up the name. I would always have to say "like Mia Farrow" as a young child to jog the memories of some. When I was young it was very clear that Mia meant Mine in the feminine possessive form in like every Romance language. Having studied Latin, Spanish, and Italian it is true. Mia directed comes from Latin word Mea (May-ah). I am aware of a different Swedish meaning. But I am not sure why incorrect alternative meaning of the name have circulated with the growth in popularity. Perhaps some people use Mia as a "pet name" for Maria, and newly invented American meanings, neither are the origins of the name. But Mia is a stand alone name with a real meaning all its own that I can imagine would be an honor for a family to name a girl.

Mia means My girl who will send me valentines day images
first of all. I love her.

If the baby I'm expecting now is a girl her name will be Mia. I heard it and fell in love instantly. It sounds so feminine and sophisticated.
