My middle name is Michele and I wish so badly that it was my first name! I love the name Michele because it is so rare now a days but when people find out my middle name is Michele they never say oh that's such an old name. Instead, people love it! It's very feminine yet it also sounds strong and independent. Also, there is no way I would love my middle name the same if it had 2 l's....one L is definitely the way to go!!(:
My name is so date stamped and out-of-fashion! I would definitely not recommend to any of today's parents. I actually prefer this spelling to the frillier two L variety, however, no one ever spells it correctly and I never even bother to correct anymore. So, for all intents and purposes my name is "Michelle" as that is how all non-family members spell it.
I love my name! Sure... it almost is never spelled correctly (people always put two L's in it) but it's ok. I almost never hear it any more and that's why I love it! Most of my family and friends call me Shell, Mish, or Mishy. I think it would be great to give to a new born today! :)
I'm fond of my name - it was unique when I was a kid, but not radically so, and now it keeps me from being confused with the sea of Ashleys and Jennifers in my peer group. The spelling never bothered me - it's simple and quick :-) The only hard thing is the nickname thing - I don't like "Shelly" or variations thereof, but it would have been nice to have a shortened version to go by. All in all, I'd recommend it to a friend. It's feminine and soft without being weak or overly used.
My mother was French-Canadian, and I actually have an accent in the first 'e'. However, I agree that it is hard to spell, I hardly bother correcting anyone who spells it 'Michelle'. At least no one can pronounce it wrong (: . As for the nicknames, mine has always either been 'Mich' or 'Michy', though a couple of friends call me 'Chelsie' for some strange reason. Either way, I think it's a great name, being uncommon nowadays, and very unique.
