We named our daughter Neve because we drove to the hospital in the snow to deliver our little chilled out baby. She was almost Natalie, but she came out so relaxed and beautiful, we had to go with Neve. It really fits her. I get a lot of compliments on her name, especially when I explain it, but it's definitely uncommon enough that people think it's a little weird.
Our daughter is named Neve. We love how beautiful and simple the name is. We chose this spelling because it is straightforward and looks so lovely. We also thought the Irish spelling would require more explanations here in the U.S. We do have a few people who pronounce this name a NEHV vs. NEEVE because (almost always) of their familiarity with actress Neve Campbell. This is understandable but unfortunate since the long "e" pronunciation would normally be more intuitive with this spelling.
Our family has both Spanish and Irish ancestry, so we were drawn to the name Neve; which can be read as an anglicised version of the Spanish name "Nieves" (meaning = snow) and the Irish name "Niamh" (meaning = bright). The name really suits our little girl with her pale skin, blue eyes and bright personality. At first we weren't so sure on this name as it's not that common, but we've had heaps of compliments so far.
We fell in love with the name Neve as soon as we saw it. We love that it's simple to write and easy to pronounce - but it's not used very often. "Neve" is unique, but not "weird". Just like our little girl!
Since we named our daughter Neve we keep hearing of more Neves popping up around the place. Possibly the name is catching on? It's definitely not high up the list in the popularity charts.
We love the names Ava, Olivia, Eve, Eva and so on, but these names are so popular where we live. When we found the name Neve we knew it was perfect - it's similar enough sounding to these popular names to sound "normal," but it's unique enough so that our daughter won't have 10 other girls in her class at school with the same name. The name just fits our little girl so well and it's great that hardly any other kids have the same name. She'll always be unique.
