My name is Nissa. The name is Norwegian. However i am not at all Norwegian nor is anyone in my family. My Grandmother picked my name out of a Baby Book in 1970 when i was born. I couldn't believe that the name Nissa was in a Baby Book in 70' because as i grew older i looked everywhere for my name including many, many Baby Books and only a few had the name Nissa. When i was 9yrs old i noticed a school friend had a pencil with their name printed on it. I thought that was so cool. I wanted pencils with my name on them too. So i looked, and looked, and looked. I found many pencils with names on them but none of the names were MY name Nissa. I was sad. My parents even went to several stores but never found ones with my name on them. Later that same year on Christmas morning i reached into my stocking and pulled out a pack of RED PENCILS, and my name NISSA was printed on each pencil. My parents went to a printing store with a package of pencils and they printed my name Nissa on every pencil. Best Christmas ever! As years passed, i often saw personalized items, such as key chains, with names on them. But once again, Nissa, wasn't one of the names that i could find. I didn't start seeing the name Nissa personalized on keychains and such, until my late teens and still pretty hard to find. I've seen names that are close to Nissa though. Names like Nessa, or Nyssa, or Nesa and even Neesha. But as for the Baby Name Books, the name Nissa is in quite allot of them now.

My Daughters name is Nissa. I picked her name out when I was 13 yrs old. I had seen a movie called the forbidden dance. Made in the 80's. Nissa was a rain forest princess trying to save her forest from being tore down. I am not sure of the actresses name though. But I knew when I heard the name that 13 yrs later I would name my daughter that. I have never met anyone else with her name.
