Pocahontas was Native American Chieftan's daughter most famous for assisting settlers in Jamestown, Virginia. Her actual names were Matoaka and Amonute. The belief in her culture was that if you knew someones "true" name, you could cast spells to cause them harm. So her tribe carefully concealed her real name from the English by only giving them her childhood nickname of Pocahontas. Eventually she converted to Christianity and her name was changed again to Rebecca.
