It seems like because of how old this name is and how ostentatious it sounds it seems like if you name a girl Prudence she's going to grow up to be a prude ("Prudence the prude"), a very stuck up teenager ("Prude is rude"), a very wrinkly old angry lady that looks like a prune ("Prudence the Prune").
Well, I disagree with the above. Prudence is a lovely old-fashioned name, and old-fashioned names are en vogue once more. Popular in the 17th and 18th century, Prudence is still familiar but very rarely used these days, like many of the Puritan virtue names. The Beatles song "Dear Prudence" is a sweet sentimental association.
