Comments and insights on the name Rachael: | Edit

I have a daughter-in-law named Rachael, and a granddaughter named Rachel, after my mother, whose middle name was Rachel. Her first name (mother's) was Letha, which she thought was okay, but for some reason she hated the name Rachel. I never could understand that ~ I thought Rachel was a beautiful name, and would have HATED being named Letha, always thinking of the mythical Lethe, meaning deep sleep or death, and of course the word "lethal." My father would sometimes tease my mother by calling her "Rach" (pronounced with a long a), and she would fuss at him!
My mother had 8 sisters (honestly), and they had such names as Alta Bernice, Olivia Ilene, Dorothy Mahulda, Virginia Rose, Eulala Maxine, Jeanette, Lulu Mary, and Verdia Chloe. I would have preferred Rachel to any of those.
I like the "look" of the Rachael version, which seems more sophisticated, but sounds the same.
Funny how a difference in spelling of a two names that sound exactly alike makes a difference in how we perceive the name, or even the person.

Personal experiences with the name Rachael: | Edit

My sister's name is Rachael. She used to hate having the unusual spelling, especially when it came to name necklaces and bracelets, etc. She even used to spell her name "Rachel" on her school papers. Now she accepts its uniqueness and also likes how it is spelled almost the same as our older brother Michael's name.

My name is Rachael. Often people call me RACHELLE because I guess the way that it's spelt is uncommon.
I used to hate it but now I like it
