I actually really like the name Raleigh... in Australia we would pronounce it like RAY-lee (I've never heard it said any other way!) but if I ever give a daughter of mine this name I would be tempted to spell it Raileigh to avoid any possible confusion.

Raleigh is my name. My mom gave me this name in 1976 as a family name (after a boy by the way) and because it was unique & unusual (although these were not qualities I was encouraged to possess). I have only met one other person with my name, just recently at the mall a little 10-year-old girl but have heard countless stories about boys named Raleigh. A word to the wise -- I HATED my name in 3rd & 4th grade when learning state capitals. I was constantly embarrassed & dreaded going to Social Studies. Additionally, I've spent my entire life not only spelling my name out but also correcting & re-correcting pronunciation (from Riley, Holly, Molly, etc) for both extremely educated & uneducated people....I always debated using my middle name Elizabeth & had I ever moved away from where I'm from longer than a couple years, I probably would have. p.s...When my son was born in 2006, I named him Logan, to ensure he is never subjected to the constant teasing I was of being called Charlotte & many other southern cities...

Darius Rucker's song Wagon Wheel mentions Raleigh a few times, although he's referring to the city; I was still excited to hear my name in a catchy fun song like that one... :)
