Comments and insights on the name Sapphire: | Edit

My name is Sapphire.. i love my name NOW , however as a child i was brutilized emotionally because of it... from the "pp" thing to the crossfire thing (game popular when i was younger) But now i love it.. its unique

The name Sapphire is loaded with racist overtones, which is why the author Romona Lofton uses Sapphire as her pseudonym. The cultural association of Sapphire with the image of a "belligerent black woman", goes back to the 1920s-1950s radio/television series Amos 'n' Andy. In it's time, Amos 'n' Andy was extremely popular and unfortunately it popularized racial caricatures of blacks. The character of Sapphire was a "domineering, aggressive, and emasculating shrew" and that characterization became popularly associated with the name Sapphire. I'd think very hard before naming a child with such a loaded name.

My name is Sapphire, and every one of my teachers spell or pronounce it wrong. My family is Ukrainian/English but I have a Hebrew name. Most people tease me about it. But I love my name and one day I hope to be an actor. What a name!

I named my daughter Sapphire. She loves her name and is proud of her name. I'm not worried about anyone making fun of her name as it is an exotic, unique, pretty name. When she was about 3 years old there was one troublemaker kid her age at her daycare (he had issues) that would call her "pacifier" sometimes to be mean. He eventually gave up on calling her that. Sapphire's are beautiful stones. When I was a young girl I remember my mom buying me some sapphire earrings. They were my favorite, a deep beautiful blue color. I also wanted my daughter to have a special name that wasn't common. My name is so common that growing up there were always at least 1 or 2 people with my name in each class or sports team I was on. I would always be compared to these people and people would often judge me because people with my name are "always" this or that. I don't have to worry about my daughter going through that. My daughter will never have to worry about having a boring name either. It's a name that sounds pretty for a kid or adult. We call her Sapphy or Sapph Sapph as a nickname. She loves her name.

Personal experiences with the name Sapphire: | Edit

My daughter is named Sapphire, it's a family thing as my mom is Amber, I'm Jade, my sister is Topaz, her unborn daughter she plans to name Ruby and my niece is Amethyst... What can I say...? We are a family of gems.

My baby niece's name is Sapphire. She is a beautiful and happy 22 month old who lights up the lives of everyone she encounters. Her name was originally suggested when my big sister Ruby was pregnant, before we even knew she was a girl. It was sort of a joke because her mother's name is Ruby and we have a cousin named Emerald. When they found out her gender, my sister kept calling her Sapphire and the name just stuck and there was no further pondering of names. Everybody we tell laughs and thinks we must be joking, but if they saw her beautiful blue/grey eyes, they'd realize how perfect it is for her. We call her Sapphy a lot and she still hasn't quite figured out how to say her name, she says it "Fasire." It is too cute!

My good friend is named Sapphire and she doesn't really like her name. When she was little she was teased because of the double p which kids turned into pee-pee and also taunted her with "Liar liar pants on 'phire'". Which seems like a minimal concern, but its really stuck with her..

My daughter is called Sapphire Saffie for short and she loves her name her middle name is Louise and she likes to be called Saffie Lou. She's never been teased about her name and is often complimented on her name

I had triplets and before i had them we found out they were all girl's and couldn't agree on three names till one day when i jumped out of the shower and put on my sapphire bracelet i thought hmmmm sapphire then i love green so emerald and my best friends favorite colour is purple so amethyst and all gems so my girls are now 2 and their names are amethyst jean, sapphire lei and emerald lesley they have a 2 brothers one older one younger vinnie 6 timothy 1
