Sariah Name Meaning & Origin

Sariah

Pronunciation: sah-RIY-ə (key)

In the Bible, Abram and Sarai were the original names of the couple whom God blessed and renamed Abraham and Sarah. Abram has a familar sound in English but Sarai has always been rare and exotic. In the past few years that has begun to change. It is still uncommon, but increasingly fashionable.

Comments and insights on the name Sariah

Some parents may derive Sariah from "Sarah," mixing it with a contemporary-sounding "iah" ending. They should be aware that Sariah is a scriptural name among Latter-day Saints, being found in the Book of Mormon (Sariah was the mother of Nephi.)

Wherever it comes from, I think it's very pretty! More exotic than plain old Sarah.

Also reminds me of psoraisis!

Personal experiences with the name Sariah

I've heard the name twice, once online and it's the name of a talkative little girl.I was surprized to see the name here. I had no idea it was derived from Sarah. I thought it was from Mariah. As far as my experince with the name,it is easy to remember and spell, and it is a less common sounding version of its original.

My oldest daughter's name is Sariah Nicole (12 years old). I love the way it flows and most importantly, SHE loves her name too (I hated mine growing up so this is important to me). I love that it's unique, but still a name that can be pronounced properly! She is very kind, talented, smart, gorgeous, shy/quiet, just an amazing girl and the name suits her well :) I also love the meaning of the name Sariah, although I was not aware of it when I named her.
