I MUCH prefer Scarlet with 1 T. A lot of people disagree with me, but I think Scarlett with 2 Ts is weird and tacky, and not classic at all. Scarlet with 1 T is beautiful, fun, and sweet, thought.
- Personal experiences with the name Scarlett: | Edit
My name is Scarlett, and I'm named for my mother's best friend (Scarlett). I have red hair so people think I was named for my hair, but I wasn't. I'm 45, and when I was a kid people always made fun of my name and 80% of the teachers & others called me Charlotte because they couldn't remember "Scarlett" for some reason. It was in a popular song about a stripper when I was a teenager, which didn't help me appreciate it much. During grad school I worked in a mall bookstore and I used to wear a name tag that said Ann, because the mocking, jokes, and commentary about my name was annoying. "Frankly my dear"...har de har har...I was so excited when Scarlett Johansson became famous, because she made the name Scarlett seem exotic and sexy and beautiful. I am feisty, and my daughter, whose middle name is Scarlett, is even more so! If you have a Scarlett you're going to need a lot of energy!
I love the name Scarlett! It always reminds me of the book Someone Like You, by Sarah Dessen. The main character is beautiful and feisty and named Scarlett! I want to name my daughter Scarlett Faith and have her twin be Savannah Grace.
MY twins will be Scarlett Eleanor and Juliet Michelle for Gone with the Wind, Romeo & Juliet, and the Beatles songs. We'll call them Lettie and Julie because my sister's name is Julie
We named our daughter Scarlett Evelyn. We had tossed the name around, and settled on something else, but when I was pregnant with her, I could feel her kicking very strongly, knew she was going to be feisty, and knew that there was no way she could be anything other than Scarlett. And it is a completely fitting name for her!
I have a Scarlett Hope. We named her middle name Hope as I had hoped and prayed for a VBAC birth for her, well, she, in her "fiesty" way, decided to be born at home before we could even get to the hospital...she's been the same since! Fiesty, incredibly beautiful, and lacks no attention (she even knows how to work men, it's unbelievable!).

- Meanings and history of the name Scarlett: | Edit
Originated from an English and Irish surname, as explained in "Gone With the Wind" ("There were the Scarletts who had fought with the Irish Volunteers for a free Ireland and been hanged for their pains.") It was an occupation name given those who dealt in scarlet, a type of fine and expensive woolen cloth, in medieval times. Scarlet actually was made in many colors, but the most popular was carmine red; this popularity also gave the cloth's name to a word for bright red, "scarlet", still used today. Scarlet was comparatively elastic due to the technique of twisting the yarn in weaving it, and was often used for stockings and tights. The character Will Scarlett in "Robin Hood" also got his surname from this occupation.
