My name is Shasta. For anyone thinking of gifting this unique name to their daughter, I'll share a little about my experience. I'm 27 at time of writing this and have yet to meet another Shasta. Currently, I'm a Speech Language Pathologist, married, and thinking of having children of my own in the next 2 years. My mother does not have any stories as to why she named me Shasta. People mispronounce my name A LOT; usually, it's substituted for "Sasha," "Stacia," "Sashta," and really the list goes on. Often, I receive praise for my name and its beauty, uniqueness, and how it seems to "fit me." As a child, I didn't understand the blessing of a unique name and felt different not being a "Jessica" or "Lindsey" or "Megan," etc. But as I've grown into an adult, I love my name and I love my mother for pre-determining a child who is as unique and assertive as her namesake. Hope this helps you decide!
My name is Shasta and I'm 33. My mother got it from a John Wayne Movie called "Rio Lobo." I absolutely love my name and have only met one other Shasta. The Shasta above me is right, though, get ready for mispronunciations. I have even been called "Chester." However, I love that my name is so unusual. I also like that people sometimes make a joke out of my name. When they do, I know right off the bat that I shouldn't waste any more time with them. This is actually a huge time saver!
My name is Shasta and I am 23 years old. I am named after Mount Shasta as my mom vacationed here as a child and fell in love with it's beauty. Do I love my name? Ehhh...I like it, but don't necessarily love it. I come from a smaller town and feel that everyone knows who I am, even though I have no idea who they are. Like the other commenter's stated above, I receive TONS of mispronunciations (Stahsha, Stasha, Stacie, Sasha, etc.). I have only met/seen one other Shasta before and it was when I was at the doctor’s office. A nurse called "Shasta" and a woman and I stood up at the same time. We looked at each other and she said "Well that’s never happened before!" It was really weird. I used to think Shasta was a boy's name because of the C.S. Lewis book The Horse and His Boy which features a boy named Shasta. If you like unique names, then you should consider Shasta.
