Tatum Name Meaning & Origin

Tatum

Pronunciation: TAY-təm (key)

This old English surname made a direct leap to girl's first name thanks to the example of actress Tatum O'Neal. Its sound is quite boyish, but since it never was a boy's name the effect is more more merry than masculine.

Comments and insights on the name Tatum: | Edit

I LOVE this name. It has a wonderful sound and meaning.

My daughter's name is Tatum, and she has certainly lived up to the meaning (cheerful); she never stops smiling.

Sorry to say, but it reminds me too much of a certain part of the male genitals.

What part ... the scrotum?

This is just an odd name to me...

It only caught on because of Tatum O'Neal. And where Ryan came up with this name, is beyond me - it's a surname, not a first name for a girl!

In response to above poster: Tatum O'Neal was named after jazz pianist Art Tatum...also, I think it's a pretty neat name for a girl. I would rather be named Tatum than something common and boring.

Not very feminine - reminds me of Tater Tots

There used to be a comic strip in the paper called Snuffy Smith. Snuffy and his wife had a baby (boy) called Tater. Also, potatoes are called Taters. Tatum reminds me of potatoes!

Reminds me of POTATOES!

That's small potatoes.

Tatum can be spelled Tatumn. My best friend is Tatumn Schatrawkhe.

I once had a teacher named Mrs. Tatum. Whenever I hear the name Tatum I think of her.
