Comments and insights on the name Tia: | Edit

My name is also Tia-Maria and I also lived in Spain for 18 years and nicked-named Aunty Mary by the locals, but i have always loved my name and loved to listen to my Mom telling me why she named me.
Not forgetting that i was born way way back in 1960 and it was very unusual to have a 'different' name from the norm in those days.

Quite simply, my mom and her life long friend were sitting in the hospital with a newborn 'me' next to the bed.
They were trying to think of a name for me when her friend said: "here, i have your favorite drink here, quick have a sip while the nurse isn't looking.

My Mom said out-loud "Tia-Maria"!
Her friend said "I know what it is, i just got it from the off-licence for you.
"No" mom said "I mean that, Tia-Maria is her name"
Her friend looked at her quite strange and said "Are you sure"?
Mom responded laughing: "I most certainly am! .. 'CHEERS'!

Personal experiences with the name Tia: | Edit

My daughter is called Tia, she's 4 and a beautiful blonde little girl. She's obsessed with Disney so we call her Princess Tia.

My name is Tia Maria, I have always hated it, I lived in Spain when I was young and was mocked for the translation "auntie", and when I moved back to England for high school and then work, everyone I have met has laughed and said I was named after alcohol. I love the Greek origin as I love the Greek gods, however I hate the name it's self, it is not the drink that bothers me, it is the name Tia. I am changing my name through deed poll.
