I have heard it derives from the japanese nick name for tornado, and when our Torrie was small she really lived up to that nick name.
Japanese for "Bird" my old friend used to call my little sister "bird" or "birdy"
My daughter, Tori, (who is in her 20's) was named after the Norwegian God of Thunder, Thor.
In Norway, Thor is spelled, Tor.
Having a Norwegian last name meaning Son Of Thor, we named her Tori as an effeminate form of Thor.
Normally, it's Thora or Tora but we didn't like those so we made it Tori. She lives up to her name, strong, confident and beautiful :)
