- Personal experiences with the name Velia: | Edit
My great aunt was named Velia. She came to the US from Mexico on a train around the 40s. She met my uncle (Grandma's little brother) and they got married and had 3 kids. He died shortly after their son was born and she had to raise them alone. She was working multiple jobs and working on getting her citizenship. They were pretty poor and all, but she kept them alive. She helped raise her grandchildren and when I was born, she moved in with us so she could help us too. My aunt Velia was my hero and she was honored by the town because of all the things she did for people. If I ever have a daughter, her first or middle name will be Velia after her. I think it's an amazing name, and it belonged to the best person I ever knew.
