My 3 year old daughter is named Waverly and I am amazed that almost every time the doctor's office calls they think she's male. This has been multiple offices over her entire 3.5 years! Does it really sound masculine? I liken the name to "Beverly" and that sounds feminine to me so I really don't get it. Or they'll mispronounce it and say "WAH-ver-lee" instead of "WAY-ver-lee". Go figure.
My boyfriend has a half-sister named Waverly and although I had never heard the name before meeting her, it seemed fitting on a little girl. There is also a town called Waverly near where I live.
Our second daughter is Waverly but we usually call her Wavy or Waves. He big sister proudly introduces her as her "baby Wavy". We get confusion sometimes when our three year old pronounces the name but otherwise people don't seem to have any trouble understanding/saying her name. We live in a place where the name is familiar (a park, etc) so perhaps that helps.
