Announcing Our Son

Victor David! We needed a name that was English-Spanish friendly (husband's family is in Central America) but that also fit with my family heritage (rural America...think Frederick, or Lowell). We also wanted something with a nickname. Vic is a darling boy.

the names together are nice, but i wonder if the first two initials VD would pose a problem for you? if not, then, congratulations, absoutely. however , if it does make you pause- how about substituting Adrian for David like

Victor Adrian Villan or Victor Andre Villan

I wouldn't worry about this - what people used to refer to as VD became STD and is now most commonly abbreviated STI, so your son's peers are unlikely to make the connection (and anyone old enough to think of the old acronym would know better, one hopes, than to descend to juvenile teasing). The names do sound good together, very classic but also rather dashing, I find. If you were looking for a substition, I rather like the suggestion of Victor Adrian though.

Congratulations and enjoy your little one!

The VD piece didn't bother us - he has my maiden name as a second middle, so his initals are VDMV, and there does seem to be a big generation gap as far as VD goes - no one our age or younger thought of it because STD has replaced it. Adrian is a lovely suggestion, though!

danasurfside-I like your suggestions for substitution. However, since the title of this part of the forums is "Name Announcements" I think that this is a done deal. I agree with kalmia that it is a rarely used connection anymore and hopefully won't cause any problems for little Victor.
