Artsy, Nerdy Boys Names

Hi everyone! I've been lurking on this forum for years, but now I'm finally pregnant and last week we found out it's a boy! Unfortunatley though we had our perfect girl name picked out (bye Isa!) our boy name list is a bit sparse so I'm hoping for suggestions.

Our ideal name would be pronounceable but somewhat unusual and give off an artsy, sensitive, and even slightly nerdy vibe (my wife and I are both professors). We are also culturally Jewish so bonus points the name is somewhat Jewish. Also shorter first names seem to flow better because our last name has three syllables.

Here are the four names on our list so far:

Miles (this is tops for now!)

Ezra (love it but worried about popularity)

Julian (like this name but it rhymes with our last name)

Rafael (I like this one with the nickname Raffi but my wife isn't as into it)

Thanks and excited to hear your suggestions!

Thank you for these suggestions! Eli was the name of my grandfather, definitely thinking about it now...

Other names to consider: Ezekiel, Eleazar/Eliezar, Malachi, Boaz... maybe Josiah? I know you requested shorter names but I think the charm in these names is the wealth of kicky, artsy-funky nickname options for each. (Zeke, Mal, Mac, Chi/Kai.) If you're worried about Ezra's popularity then you'll probably not be a fan of just-Eli, but a longer name that abbreviates to it might work?

some others that came to mind are

roscoe, monroe, caleb, marvin, marty, chester, morris, atlas

I love all of the names on your list! In my son's school, I haven't seen an Ezra or a Rafael, but I have met a Miles and a Julian. Honestly, if you're worried about popularity, I think it really depends on where you live.

Some suggestions:

Silas, Lucas/Luca, Tobias (nn Toby?), Simon, Holden, Elliot, Cullen, Theodore (nn Theo?), Kieran

Do you have a middle name picked out? That could help narrow the list down.
