Baby Boy Names - Stuck!

This is our 2nd boy and I’m having a lot of trouble coming up with a name. Our first sons name is Bode (pronounced Bo-DEE). I love the name Jude but it doesn’t fit with our last name. So far we only have two that my husband and I both like -

Bennett Montana

Chance Hart

They both have meaning to us for different reasons. But I have concerns that Bennett will just become “Ben” and that Chance is too weird.

What do you think of those names? Do you have any recommendations of boy names? Thank you!

Well, 1329 boys were named Chance in 2016 so I'd hardly call that weird. If fear of weirdness is the only think holding you back on that one, I don't think that it's a problem. For comparison, only 203 boys were named Bode that year.

If you don't like Ben, I'd say not to use Bennet in the first name slot.

I am sorry but i am not a fan of chase. I think Bennett is lovely though

I agree that Chance doesn't seem too "weird."  I actually went to high school with a boy named Chance, so it seems perfectly normal to me as a first name.

I agree Bennett is likely to be shortened to Ben.  You'll have some control over it when he's young, but as he gets older probably not so much.

Can you give us a clue about what your last name is?  Sounds like/like/number of syllables/etc?  Perhaps Jude isn't as bad of a fit as you think.  We could also try to offer suggestions similar to Jude that would be less problematic with the surname.

Similar to Chance:  Chaz, Chase, Charles, Clancy

Similar to Jude:  Judd, Justin, Rudy, Luke

Similar to Bennett:  Benedict (same Ben issue), Beckett, Everett

More random suggestions:  Curt/Curtis, Levi, Cole, Rhett, Pierce, Jett, Cade, Moss, Asher, Reed, Ruben

I like Bennett best but - then you'd have 2 B names,  dont really like Montana for a boy

sorry I really dont like Chance,  what about Everett,  Emmett or Vance

Here's the thing: if you said you were having twins or brothers with names Bennett Montana and Chance Hart, I would say they sound straight out of a cheesy, romance novel. But with brother Bode and just picking one- I think you're safe! I would echo others above that, if you don't like Ben, I would say no to Bennett. I don't think Chance is unusual at all- I know a few of them. It is not my personal style, but there is nothing wrong with it.

Thinking of Chance, some other names that come to mind that are similar in style: Trace, Cade, Gage, Tyson, Jack, Colton, Colby, Jace, Blaze, Nolan, Levi
