Of all of your choices, my faves for boys are Everett, Micah, and William. Although they're all different flavors, I think they're all great with your ln (If I remember correctly, it's something like Stephenson, right? Please let me know if I'm wrong!). Bennett and Landon are only okay for me, and Gunner/Gunnar just makes me think of being a foot soldier.

For girls, I really like Kyra; it's far and away my favorite for you. It's short, but it doesn't feel like a nickname. After that are Arley (prefer this spelling) and Kinsey, which I guess would grade a B+ to Kyra's A, if that makes any sense. Lexi and Maci I only like as nns, but I think you've said you aren't sold on the full versions and like them by themselves. These are just okay for me. Brinley is definitely my least favorite of all of your choices.

As for suggestions, since I like most of your boy names, I'm just going to concentrate on girls, so here's what I've got:

  • Aubrey
  • Juliet
  • Elise
  • Brooke
  • Jolie
  • Holly
  • Sidney
  • Leah

Do any of these do anything for you?

Thank you for your opinions! I agree about Gunner it was on the bottom of my list. As for the girls I love Kyra as well it is short and sweet. The suggestions are not really my style although I did consider Elsa. You were right on the last name. :)

From your boy list, Bennett, Everett & William would be my favorites.

Micah isn't bad, but doesn't seem to fit the style of your other boy names, which you might find problematic later if you have another boy and prefer sibling names of the same style.

Landon is OK, but I've seen a lot of them born in the last 3-4 years, so I can see the possibility of it becoming trendy or dated.

My least favorite is Gunnar both for sound and because it brings to mind the military gunner & Gunnery Sargeant.

I like Kyra and have a niece with that name (Keer-a, not Ky-ra).  She doesn't have a lot of problems with her name, most people guess Keer-a, so if you want the Ky-ra version my guess is you'll need to prepared to make a lot of corrections.  This would probably rule the name out for me, but may not be as much of a problem for you.  If you are concerned about the pronunciation of Kyra, maybe you could consider Kyla.

Lexi and Maci aren't bad, but they both seem very nicknamey & young to me.  I like Lexi as a nickname for Alexandra or Alexis much better.

I associate Maci with the teen mom and I've never seen the show.  Such a strong pop culture association makes me suspect it'll crash and burn soon-which could make it seem dated in a few years.  For something with the feel of Maci without the pop culture reference maybe Lacy, Staci, May/Mae, Maisie, or Marcy?

Brinley and Kinsey both seem very trendy/dated to me-but of the two I prefer Kinsey.   Instead of Brinley maybe Brynn? Instead of Kinsey, maybe you'd like Kendall or Kennedy?

I think I've mentioned before that I had an uncle named Arley, so I have a lot of trouble seeing this name on a girl.  For the feel of Arley, but more traditionally female how about Arla, Carly/Carla, Darla or Marley/Marla/Maura?

Some other names you might like-Chelsea, Tori, Allie, Lucy, Keely, Laney, Ayla, Lila?

Thanks for your thoughts. Keely is actually our cats name. :)

For boys I like William, Bennett and Everett. For girls, I like Kyra, though I do prefer Kira (Keer-a).  Other names: Kara, Cora, Maya, Lila

I love William, Bennettt, and Everett. They all strike me as names that will be great on little guys but handsome on grown-ups, and they have cute nns if you want them.

I particularly like Everett as I think it's underused.

One oddball note: William Bennett is a political figure, so I would probably not use those two together.

I like Landon fine. Like Logan, it's a bit run-of-the-mill for me, but it's a perfectly fine name. I'm not a fan of Micah, though not for any real reason. I know some find it feminine in sound. For me, it's firmly boy; I'm just not a fan.

Gunnar is my least favorite. It just has a very militant style, for lack of a better word, that I'm not a fan of. I like boys' names to sound very much all boy, but not as if they're trying too hard....if that makes sense.

I sort of like Arley. It does sound masculine to me, but I think it works for a girl, and it has a modern quality without sounding quite as made-up as a few of the others do.

Brinley and Kinsey are just not my style. They feel a little flimsy. I do like just Bryn on its own.

I like Kyra, though the ones I've known have been Keer-as, which makes me think you may have troubles with getting people to pronounce it right. I do think it's a solid, confident name, and it feels like it will age better to me.

Lexi is a name I like quite a lot, but as others have said, I feel like it's a nn.

Maci is just not a name I care for. I know it's very popular on other sites, but I've never been able to get over the clanginess I hear in it.

Others:

Mia, Maisie, Brooke, Carys/Kerris, Maya, Ainsley, Hallie, Lia, Ashby, Isla

I also know a Kaisa pronounce KI (rhymes with sky)-suh.

Your mention of Kaisa makes me think of an acquiantance named Kaia (KIY-uh), which I think is lovely.

Thanks for your opinions! I have taken Gunnar off our list after hearing everyone's thoughts I was on the fence about it to begin with. I like Maisie and Maya from your suggestions. Lexi is still a top contender for me. I just love it!

I like Lexi as well, although I'd definitely go for a full name like Alexandria or Alexis over just Lexi. A friend's sister had this name and the "Sexi Lexi" nickname was a horrible burden for her.

Other similar names: Lyra, Ainsleigh, Teagan, Bryleigh, Ember, Kendall, Tenley

Boys:

Having taken Gunnar off the list, we've got Bennett, Everett, Landon, Micah, William. William is a still-popular classical name, but the others are all fast-rising popular names--Micah's the highest at #41, but all these names are showing quick rises--so they'll all have some trendy feel. My favorites on the list are Everett and William.

Other possibilities: Branson, Bronson, Beckett, Kellen, Stellan, Garrett, Barrett

Girls:

Two syllables, terminal -ee sounds dominating (with Kyra as the one different name). Kyra is my favorite on the list. Arley/Arleigh is interesting, because it matches the trend, but it hasn't actually taken off anywhere--it's not in the top 1000 names in any spelling! Brinley and Kinsey have just started appearing on the list in the past few years. Admittedly, with Kinsey, I immediately think about the Kinsey Report, which may or may not affect your view of the name. Maci has the Maci-from-Teen-Mom vibe, but that will fade (and Maci from Teen Mom is causing the name to spike right now, anyway). With Lexi, I would definitely adopt a longer name and then use Lexi as the nickname--it's like getting a whole bunch of names at the same time!

Other possibilities: Tierney, Ainsley, Kenley, Mila, Kyla, Teela

Of your girl choices, Arley is my favorite, since it is unusual but has a modern sound, and I believe you said it was your grandmother's name, right?  That makes it more meaningful as well.

The only other one I kind of like is Kyra, although I prefer the keer-ah pronunciation and the Kira or Keira spellings, which I think are more standard/traditional.  The other names don't strike me as having a lot of substance or meaning, unless of course there is some personal meaning to them for you of which we're not aware.  Brinley isn't bad--it just sounds invented to me, a combination of popular sounds.  For Kinsey, the sex study is a strong enough association that I wouldn't want to attach it to my daughter, and I think Lexi and Maci have that cutesy quality which is sometimes associated with "stripper names" like Candi or Bambi (and the Sexy Lexi thing doesn't help).  I think Lexi and Maci would be fine as nicknames for more established full names, but I know you said you don't want to go that route.  I think there are some short names ending in -i which don't have that issue--any love for Demi, Heidi, Jodi, Lori, Siri, Suri, or Tori?  Or maybe Lillie, Lucie, Elsie, Gracie, Sadie, Sophie, or Sylvie?  Or Rosey, Betty, Carly, Daisy, Lindsay, Maisey, Molly, Orly, Penny, Polly, Poppy, Romy, Tansy, or Zoe/Zoey?  A lot of those are more nicknamey than I would usually tend to go for full names, but I think they all manage to sound both cute and dignified.

For boys, I love Bennett, Everett, Micah, and William.  Everett is probably the one I'd be most likely to use personally, but I think they're all great.  I like the idea and sound of Landon, but the fact that it is so trendy would make me not want to use it.
