Blow away, Daisy-lion....

Today, on the drive home from art camp, my daughter told me she no longer wants to go by her nickname (Da1sy) but instead by her full name (M@rg@r3t).

She's apparently been test-driving her full name at art camp, changed her name tag to her full name, and has decided that's what she wants, at least for now.

I'm both amused at her test-driving (she's 5! nice thinking, kid) and a bit sad...

Aww, I 100% understand your sentiments. While we know that eventually our kids will have control of their own names, it's not always an easy transition to make.

Has she always been called Da1sy at home/school or does she go by both and is now choosing the full name full time?

She's always been Da1sy, since birth (though she has family pet names as well, like Dizzy and Da1sy-boo). My sense is that she is trying some things out before changing to a new school, so that she can go in there confident and in charge of her image.

I totally understand the sadness. My 3 yo has already jettisoned her nicknames. It took a few weeks for me and my husband to adjust, and she's still working on her friends. We do use her nickname when my husband and I are talking privately, when the kids are in bed, so we get to use it just a little. Daisy is such a sweet name, so I would be sad to see it go! It will be interesting to see if it sticks.

We haven't told her grandparents yet, in case it doesn't stick, but she is quite firm about it so far. We'll see!
