Does this middle name work?

Hello again my friends! I guess I have pretty much given up the idea of naming our baby girl my favorite name, Genevieve, because I dislike the nicknames Jen and Jenna very much. Even if I can call her the full name while she's little, she will be her own person and could very well choose to be called Jen. So, that being said, I still would like to use it as a middle name. Problem is, it doesn't go very well with Piper- my husband's favorite name. Piper Genevieve. I don't know? I think Piper Jane sounds much better and also goes with her older sister's name, Macy Kate, BUT then I may never ever get to use Genevieve!! This could be our last baby and even if not, it's obviously a 50/50 shot the next will be a girl too. Any thoughts would be wonderful- you guys are so great to help out a silly mommy like me! Thanks!

Actually, I kinda like Piper Genevieve... I feel like Piper Jane is a bit clipped because the i in Piper is very sharp? bright? strong? (Hopefully the idea comes across) and Jane doesn't add any melody or rhythm to it. On the other hand, Genevieve (read in English or French) adds a nice, contrast to that without clashing.

Yes, Piper Jane "matches" better with Macy Kate, but so what? Macy and Piper go well, you love the name Genevieve, and Piper Genevieve works perfectly nicely. If I met a little Piper Genevieve, I would find her name charming.

I also prefer Piper Genevieve over Piper Jane.  Though I adore Jane, Piper Jane does sound very clipped and choppy to me.  Piper Genevieve is much more melodic.  I also find it strikes a great balance between spunky and sweet.

I can see how Macy Kate and Piper Jane have a certain symmetry-2 syllables with a 1 syllable middle.  But Macy Kate has more of a spunk/sweet feel to me that makes Piper Genevieve a better match (IMO).

I agree with both of you. Jane is one of my favorites, but I don't like it with Piper. On the other hand, I think Piper Genevieve is ADORABLE.

I also agree that Macy Kate and Piper Genevieve both have that spunky/sweet combination (I couldn't find the right words!). I would TOTALLY go with Piper Genevieve!

I also think that Piper Genevieve sounds great. I honestly wouldn't overthink the match with Macy Kate too much. I know that we talk a lot about sibsets around here, but I think that Macy and and Piper sound just fine together, and I really and truly think it doesn't matter if the middles don't match. It's more important that you get to use the name you love, especially since it sounds like your husband will get his first choices for the first names of both your girls.

I think Piper Jane and Piper Genevieve are both nice, in somewhat different ways.  Piper Jane has a great, snappy feel, I think, but Genevieve flows nicely after Piper and kind of softens it a bit, which I'm guessing you may like.  If you want to use Piper Genevieve, I think there's no reason not to.

I agree!  Piper Genevieve flows quite nicely.  Go for it!

I like Piper Genevieve best, but I am sad you are giving up Genevieve as a first name!

Coming in late, but I agree that Piper Genevieve works quite well and is a good match to Macy Kate without being too matchy-matchy. I think you should get the name you love in there somewhere so definitely consider using Genevieve in the middle. Piper Jane is nice but a little too expected. Piper Genevieve is much more interesting!

I also love Genevieve and like you don't love the nicknames Gen/Jen/Jenny/Jenna so I would probably prefer to use it in a middle slot one day. I have toyed with the idea of using the nickname Neve but again it's a gamble as to whether you could enforce it.

Ditto what everyone else said-they both work!
