Dolphin names

Two bottlenose dolphins were spotted in the Potomac River, and they're soliciting suggestions for what to name them.

My 8 year old son suggested Delphine (for the scientific name of a dolphin, delphinus) and Patty (short for Patapsco). For someone who usually names his stuffed animals things like Killer (the orca), Hunter and Howler (wolves), and Bluey (the blue teddy bear), I was pretty impressed with his suggestions.

Suggestions are due Friday May 24!

This reminds me of an article I was reading recently about a pink dolphin and her calf (I guess they're albino? The photos are stunning) that live off the coast of Louisiana. Locals call the mom Pinky and they may have been deciding a name on the calf.

Regarding the Potomac dolphins, think Delphine is a winner. I didn't see on the site if they're male or female?
