Eliza or Elisa?

Please let me know your thoughts and comments on these names! Initially I wanted to go for Elizabeth but gradually grew into the short version. They are actually completely different names: E-Lie-Za and E-lee-Sa. Which one sounds better to your ear?

Thanks in advance !!!

I prefer Eliza to Elisa, although I'm not sure why really; possibly it's because I don't really care for the name Lisa, although I do like the Elise variant. They are both fine names though. Elisa is less popular if that's something you care about, although I would guess it's also the one more likely to be mis-heard/pronounced/spelled.

Wait, are you pronouncing the first syllable as "ee"? I've heard Eliza pronounced both ee-LIE-za and eh-LIE-za (or uh-LIE-za, the difference is pretty subtle), but I've never, ever heard Elisa pronounced ee-LEE-sa. It's always, always, eh-LEE-sa.

I do not at all like the ee version of Elisa, so if you like that starting sound, definitely Eliza. Elisa reads much more Continental European or Latina to me, so that ee at the beginning sounds all wrong. Eliza is very English, so it can work there (although I still much prefer the "eh" beginning).

Thank you! I pronounce Elisa like eh-lee-sa too. And the same starting sound with eh-lie-za. Just can't decide which name I prefer more... But after all the comments I guess I am leaning towards Eliza.

I prefer Eliza, especially as a nickname for Elizabeth.  Elisa reminds me of names of my own generation, like Alyssa and Alicia, that are kind of bland and mom-ish to my ear (although most people disagreed in a recent thread about Alyssa).

I prefer Eliza but had Elise been an option I would have picked that.
