Final four

Baby boy is due in a week. His brothers are Delanynder Luke and Ikarus Alexander. We've finally narrowed down our options to four names

Alistair Orion

Tiberius Thane

Perseus Orion

James Tiberius

I know James doesn't exactly 'fit' but it's a tradition I'd like to keep going, and he'd go by his middle name. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm a huge fan of classical names, so I think that Perseus, Tiberius and Orion are all great, and James is one of my all-time favorites. I really like Alistair as well, and Thane is a really unusual and interesting choice that I hadn't heard as a name before. My inclination would be to not pile the mythology on too heavily--Perseus Orion is a bit much as a combo, even for me. And as great as the James Tiberius combo sounds, the Captain Kirk association is just too strong for me. If you're a die-hard Star Trek fan that might appeal to you, but I prefer my allusions to be a bit more subtle. Especially if you want to use Tiberius as the call name anyway, I would cross that one off. You could recombine those into Perseus James, which would probably end up being my top pick if that were an option. Alistair Orion and Tiberius Thane are both awesome as well, though.

The tradition is for James to be the first name, so moving it to the middle is kind of pointless. I understand the concerns about too much mythology and too much star trek, but I don't mind things like that. :)

Ok, if you don't mind, of course it's your preference that matters. But you asked for opinions and suggestions :) So my vote would be for one of the other two, or maybe for James Perseus, which preserves James as the first name but gets rid of the Captain Kirk connection.

The family tradition makes me want to vote for James Tiberius, but I agree that it does send a really strong Trekkie message.  But if the call name is going to be Tiberius, I wonder how many people would actually even know about the James?  If it doesn't bother you, Tiberius s a nice name and it does seem to fit with your other kids' names.

If you decide the Kirk connection is too much, James Perseus is really nice.  It would probaby be my first choice actually (if you don't mind mixing & matching some of your name combos).

I love Alistair, but if it's to be the call name I don't think it quite stands up to his brother's names (assuming they are generally going by Delanynder and Ikarus). Though, it's possible and I'm misinterpreting your tradition and they all go by their middle names, and your kids are called Luke and Alexander most of the time?

In any case, I really like a child *called* Perseus or Tiberius (or Orion, if the "he'd go by his middle name" is true for all the combos) with siblings called Delanynder and Ikarus.

In spite of having generally good geek credentials, I'm only casually familiar with Star Trek, but even I immediately thought of Kirk with the James Tiberius combo... and I think that would be a comment that would thus happen a WHOLE LOT, like every time someone sees the whole name. I would make sure that it doesn't bother you, and that you can raise your son to have a very positive attitude to having that conversation as well. I think this would be mostly whenever someone new sees the class roster at school, and when filling out paperwork for things... so it's not THAT often. He'd be J. Tiberius most of the time, but I would actually guess that even the J. Tiberius would elicit commentary about "Is the J for James, ha ha ha?"

I guess I need clarification on what the call names for all these combos are as well as what the call names for the siblings are, before I can vote definitively.
