Finalists for baby girl

We need help with our finalist names for our baby girl, due in a little over a month.

Mae Lucia

Matilda Lucy

Beatrice Lucy

Clara Lucy

Ingrid Lucia

(Lucy is a family name)

I'm leaning heavily toward Mae, with Matilda as our second choice, but I'm wondering if it feels too much like a nickname. Perhaps we should go with Matilda and use Mae as a nickname...

I love all of your choices, and was already leaning toward Matilda Lucy before I got to the bottom of your post. Really like Mae as a nn to Matilda. Ingrid Lucia comes in at a very close second.

Would you be willing to use other Lucy varients? I think Matilda Lucille is a smidge better than Lucy in the mn spot. Clara Lucinda and Beatrice Lucille could be lovely as well.

Could you tell us what your ln sounds like? That might help us with your decision.

Thanks! Yes, we're willing to consider Lucy alternatives, with Lucinda and Lucia as our favorites.

Our lastname starts with an F, two syllables, second syllable rhymes with main. It's of French origin. My family is Swedish, I should say, and we lean Scandinavian for first names.

I like all of them, but particularly Clara, Beatrice and Matilda. I'd love to know how you are pronouncing Lucia, as that would affect my choice. I've heard Loo-SEE-ah (Latin America), LOO-sha (Britain), Loo-CHEE-ah (Italy)  and Loo-THEE-ah (Spain). My preference is for the former, possibly because I have a great Mexican friend with that name.

I think Ingrid Lucinda could be really lovely.  I like how it'd be 2 syllable, 3 syllable, 2 syllable.  I also like the repeated D and I sounds.

Matilda Lucy is my favorite from your list, with Clara Lucy a distant second.

Would you consider using Lucy as a first?  I like Mae, but am not crazy about it as a first with Lucy (or a variant) in the middle slot; however, Lucy Mae is adorable.

forget to mention that I think Mae works fine as a nickname for Matilda since you mentioned that as a possibility.

Tough choice since they are all lovely,

I think Matilda Lucy (or Lucille) with the nn Mae could be a good option since it kind of gets both names in at once. I also slightly prefer Lucille with Matilda over Lucy but both are nice.

I am also fond of Ingrid Lucia or even better Ingrid Lucinda (slightly nicer flow). So that would be my second choice.

I really like Clara, Beatrice and just Mae too so I'm not sure I'm much help. So many nice choices!

I like your idea of Matilda Lucy with Mae as a nickname best. Of your other options I prefer Beatrice Lucy, though Clara Lucy is very cute. Ingrid Lucia is nice too. Really, all sound lovely. But if I were to choose one I'd choose Matilda.

Let me throw in another vote for Matilda, although I agree that a different middle name might flow better  - I liked the suggestion of Lucille.

I pretty much love all of these, so I don't think there's a bad choice here, but my vote would probably got to Matilda, followed by a tie of Ingrid and Clara.  As for Mae, I like it on its own, but it is hard to pull the trigger on such a short name (my daughter is Ivy, so we went through some of the same thought process--in our case, I felt reassured by the fact that it was two syllables even if it was only 3 short letters, and that it did not sound like a nn for something else).  So, if you are feeling unsure about Mae on those grounds, I really like the idea of Matilda nn Mae.  On the other hand--some people really love a short and sweet name, which Mae undoubtedly is, and it can be especially good if your LN is a long one.  All great options, though--good luck getting it narrowed down!

I agree that Mae is a bit too nicknamey on its own, but Matilda nicknamed Mae is great.

Thanks, all, for your comments! Matilda (nname Mae) is the front runner for us right now, I think.

For those who asked about Lucia, we're pronouncing it Lu-see-a. We don't have it as a firstname contender because of all the pronounciations out there, and because we know two little Lucia/Loo-shas which would lead to even more confusion.

I'm going to be the odd one our here, but I don't see Mae as a nn for Matilda.

To me, they're just two very distinct names-both names I love, just not names that share an identity if that makes sense. Perhaps it doesn't. :)

I also think it's one that will take a bit of explanation-a Matilda might easily zig zag between Tilly and Matilda for folks, but I think with Mae and Matilda most would be inclined to pick one.

On to the main question.....

I truly do love all your names.

I think my overall fav is Mae Lucia. I love the beautiful simplicity of Mae. It strikes me as a name that will be darling on a little girl and elegant on a grown up. I also think it flows the best with Lucia, if that matters, and the overall combo. is lovely.

Matilda is probably my second pick. It's just a great name. I do wonder a bit at how well it ages-probably because I'm thinking of the Dahl book at the moment.

Clara Lucy is also darling, and in terms of two names flowing well, I think it's the best of all of them.

I'm not a particular fan of Beatrice or Ingrid, but they're fine names. Ingrid is also unsual, and I like it with Lucia, as I think of the Swedish St.Lucia celebration, which makes it a natural combo. for me.

I personally like Lucy Mae! But my name has done me well over the years too! You will know when the baby comes and you see her for the first time. Good luck and enjoy. I have a little girl named Ava and it has been quite an amazing adventure of emotions.

    Take care,

      Ingrid Lucia.
