Help us choose daughter's name - Isabella Hope or Sonora Hope

Our children's names are Oscar, Michael, and Scarlett and we're expecting another little girl. Oscar goes by O; Michael goes by Mikey; Scarlett goes by Letty, Lets, Scar

We like the name Isabella Hope and planned to call her Izzy or Bella.

But a new name came across our radar that isn't as trendy that we wanted to consider. Sonora; could call her Sonny or Nora.

When referring to my daughters it'd either be Letty and Izzy or Letty and Sonny most often.

What do you think?

Sonora makes me think of sonar... However, I do like Nora as a nickname. From what you are saying, you are looking for something less popular/trendy. I would definiely say Isabella is a trendier type of name (arguably less so than it has been over the previous years, though- so there is some decline). Scarlett is also a trendy name at this time, so I wonder what your criteria would be when you think of "trendy"?

Here's a vote for Sonora! I like the freshness of the name and the vintage-esque feel. I think it goes well with the other kids' names and shouldn't be difficult for anyone to pronounce. Isabella is also nice, but it doesn't have the same flair as Sonora.

I LOOOVE the name "Isabella" because she "is" "a" "BELLA" like in Italian for She is A Beauty!!! ;) ;) ;))))

Anyways it was nice talking to you...

Sonora makes me think of "dry" (Sonora Desert) and "loud" (sonorous). Interesting (to me) factoid: nobody agrees on the origin of the name, but multiple theories trace it to the Spanish word señora "woman, lady" (from various appellations of Mary), and in fact Wikipedia cites a 16th century travelogue where the region in Mexico is called "Valles de Señora".

The fact that Isabella doesn't share an initial with any of the siblings is a point in its favor. I also think it's a beautiful name. I know it has supposedly been popular in recent years, but this year's student directory for the local elementary school has a grand total of two (a 4th grader and a 5th grader), and the only bearer of this name that I am personally acquainted with is the wife of my sister's boss. She's closer to our mom's generation than to ours. Which goes to show: popularity really isn't what it's hyped up to be.

The boss' wife is Izabella-with-a-z, but other than that, I totally agree with what my sister said. :)

I vote for Sonora! With Nora as a nickname. Isabella is very common.
